The goal of Wenick’s education platform is a simple concept: to expand the opportunities of young minds and provide them with a diverse, hands-on learning experience that will well equip them for the workforce - regardless of socioeconomic status.

As president, I would generate many outreach programs to allow more kids to join charter schools. In many lower class neighborhoods, charter schools are a better option for kids as they provide longer school hours that the kids need to thrive and they include 3 meals a day (that they would not get otherwise.)

Although I am trying to promote and enlarge charter schools, I believe public schools are equally as important, especially in areas that do not need charter schools. As a child growing up in Brickell, Florida, I went to public school and I have seen first hand the problems of underfunding these schools. As president, I would continue to fund public schools, especially in areas that do not offer other schooling options.

The Wenick campaign is a staunch, strong supporter of funding the arts: outside and inside of school. As president, Wenick will ensure that programs like the NEA are supplied with sufficient funds. I understand that the arts can have a massively positive impact on a child’s learning and creativity and will only cost the national budget 1/10 of 1%, the New York Times reported.

Science, technology, engineering, and math. These fields are the future of our nation, and we need brilliant young minds actively participating in them now more than ever. I will ensure that STEM is alive and active in schools. I will create several STEM outreach programs for young people to explore the fields. I will push hard to give women more opportunities to enter STEM programs. Everyone deserves an equal chance to find outlets for their passion and change the world one day.

I also understand that student debt can put a stressful financial strain on families and individuals pursuing higher education. There is no reason why a young person should not receive a proper education due to a lack of funds. For this reason, the Wenick campaign will push for more merit-based scholarships at public four-year colleges and universities, as well as making community colleges tuition-free for households with an annual income of $125,000 or less. As these households make up around 83% of our nation’s people, these changes are crucial.

As for Common Core, I understand the need for standardized testing- tracking the progress of students as compared to the rest of the nation. However, I do believe the program was rolled out poorly. I would like to implement a new curriculum that incorporated experience and discussion based learning. Currently, we teach our children to sit still, raise your hand when you want to talk, and only speak when someone tells you to, and it is so important to me that we teach our children to have opinions and voice them. I strongly believe that the best way to learn is not by listening, but by doing.
